Artist bio

Nico, also known as Nicole Holderbaum, is a Miami-based visual artist, muralist, creative director, and community organizer. Her work is known for bold large-scale visuals, vibrant color, and a distinctive blend of nature, technology, and spirituality.

Across murals, public art, and creative collaborations, Nico explores transformation, unity, empowerment, and the relationship between organic and digital worlds. Her work often brings together natural imagery, sharp contrasts, and a sense of movement, making her a natural fit for a project built around art in motion.

For Moving Canvas, Nico created a design that reflects Miami’s layered identity: lush, beautiful, sharp, urban, and full of contrast.

The design

Nico’s design is inspired by duality: masculine and feminine, soft and sharp, tropical beauty and urban edge. The artwork features a bougainvillea branch interacting with barbed wire, creating a visual tension that feels deeply connected to Miami.

The design turns the robot into a mobile form of public art. It is meant to spark curiosity, conversation, and joy as it moves through the city.

• What inspired your design? My work is often inspired by the duality of masculine and feminine energy, soft and sharp. I strive to express this duality in magical ways that also showcase elements from my environment here in Miami, FL. In this case, a bougainvillea branch interacting with a barbed wire.
• What excites you the most about bringing your design to the community by way of Serve? This is truly the new frontier for art, mobile artwork that is seamlessly part of our day to day lives.
• How do you see the robot fitting into the community visually? I see the robot being a mobile form of public art, something that sparks joy and inspiration in everyone it passes daily.
• Are you aiming for the robot to blend in, stand out, or spark conversation? I hope that the robot sparks conversation about the limitless possibilities of integrating art into our everyday lives in this new technological world.
• Did you draw on any local culture, landmarks, or traditions in your design? Miami is a place where we often witness encounters between the rough urban edge and a mystifying tropical beauty of this unique city.
• How do you want people to feel when they encounter the robot? I want people to feel curious and excited, and happy that they get to experience something so new and unique.
• What story or message does your design tell about the community? Miami is the epitome of duality, a place where you can find the most beautiful pristine natural landscapes and scenes, but turn the corner and you're face to faced with the depths of human despair.
• How would you describe the personality your design gives the robot? Focusing on finding joy in every moment, finding the beauty in even the most sharp moments of life.
